Real Estate Transaction 1893

I did that this afternoon and found an article about a real estate transaction made by John J. Wiseman, my grandfather, in 1893. Apparently, he bought 45 acres in Lewiston for $4,500. That was a lot of money. Does that sound reasonable? The article comes from the North Tonawanda NY Evening News, July 1893.
